Would you even believe me if I told you that the according to the statistics of the Disease Control Center, that right around 60% of the popular in American consists of people that are over weight, or worse yet, obese? In all honesty, the ratio of over weight American has now increased to an all time high. While I am not writing this article to scare those that may be over weight, I AM writing in order to help inform those that are. I think it is very important for people to know the facts about being overweight and obese, as it could literally end up killing you some day.

Don’t believe me? Perhaps you would be a little more convinced if I were to tell you that every day the death rate for those who are obese gets closer and closer to the death rate of those that die of smoking. Believe it or not, those are the facts; every day more and more people die from obesity, and the way that things are going in American, with all of the unhealthy food that is becoming more and more prominent, this comes as no big surprise at all.

Unfortunately it is hard to NOT become over weight in this day and age (unless of course you have a hyper fast metabolism), due to the simple fact that every time you turn around, all you see every where are advertisements screaming at you to eat unhealthy food, or large bill boards advertising fast food, and so on so forth. How can a person even stay healthy in a country for fast food dominates the food market? Even restaurants serve mostly food that is far from healthy; in fact, most of the items on the typical restaurant menu consist of foods that are well over 1,000 calories. Even the salads served at most places are full of fattening foods and dressing.

Even the methods that restaurants (and especially fast food chains) used to cook their foods are highly unhealthy, as they always tend to add yet even more calories to the food being cooked. For example, deep fried French fries, which you will always find at just about any fast food chain, such as McDonald’s and Burger king, just to name a couple. And even in the actual restaurants, they still fry most of their food, which tends to add much unnecessary grease and fat to any of the food cooked in the frying pan.

So how does one even eat healthy in this society? Well, to put things simply, as you may have guessed, it all starts at the super market. I won’t go into great detail here, but as long as you go with things like salad, fresh fruit (or even canned fruit, as long as it is not stored in syrup), you should be just fine. When picking foods that you need to cook, or that you would use to create a meal, always check the calorie count, which will always be labeled right on the back of the box. A good rule of thumb is too go with foods (and ingredients) that are around 200 calories per serving or less.
